AT&T customer? Sorry, no Freedom of Speech

Slashdot reports that a new Terms of Service gives AT&T the right to suspend your account and all services if you do something that “tends to damage the name or reputation of AT&T, or its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries”. It plainly means that a customer cannot complain about bad service. That much for Freedom of Speech.
After exporting so much Democracy, hope the USA are not going to export telco’s Terms of Service, too…

When you sign up for the online service of the Wii that adds some features such as free firmware update and the honor of buying online old games ported to the Wii you also have to sign up a license agreement that allows Nintendo to remove any unauthorized changes you made to the Wii (such as loading a hacked firmware) and of course they are authorized to scan your Wii to check for changes they are not happy with.
I agree with the general idea of freedom, but all these services are not required for anyone. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. If enough people won’t buy it, they will change the rules because they still need to make money.
It is that simple (in theory).

Ciao Andrea,
I agree that we all could (and rarely choose to) avoid buying some service/good due to Terms of Service not really good. But what would you say if you’re very comment about Wii would entitle Nintendo to turn off your console?
