Old Europe - Back to London

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 in Trips & Travel by michele

I’m back to London after several years, and I realized today that I was starting to forget its atmosphere.

Having been several times in New York City in the last few years, I have been fascinated
by its appeal. At a time I have even considered working there for a few years, it would have been an interesting experience. This “Manhattan effect” didn’t make me forget my Old Europe of course, but all the same…

Today, an afternoon stroll in the centre of London was all it took to remember that I still like my Old Europe and its history much more than the New World :-)

Quote of the Day (it’s still here to annoy you)

I’m thick. I’m as thick as the big print version of the Complete Works of Charles Dickens.

Not going to write who I am quoting, so if you can guess… let me know!

Ops… HE did it again

No Britney Spears, not even this time. HE is our Prime Minister, Mr. Silvio Berlusconi.

He’s been back in office for a few weeks now, and here we again. New law proposals that would (unintentionally, of course) help his own legal troubles.

First of all, let’s abolish telephone tapping. Hey, what is police to use in investigations? OK, so let’s keep it, but just for a few crimes: terrorism, mafia, stuff like that. What about corruption? No thanks, not interesting enough.

And how are we going to speed up trials? That’s in fact a huge issue in Italy. Well, the answer is easy: let’s freeze all old trials, but for a few crimes: terrorism, mafia, stuff like that. What about corruption? No thanks, not interesting enough.

Mmm… Guess what kind of crime is involved in Berlusconi’s legal troubles?
